We are unable to give clearance for COVID
Doctors are unable to routinely provide patients with COVID 19 clearance. However, they can provide a Medical Certificate for the dates you are absent from your regular duties.
The Australian government advice and guidelines recommend that COVID-19 testing resources are available to patients who show symptoms of COVID-19 or who have had close contact with a confirmed case.
At this time GPs cannot:
Provide clearance for people who have returned from overseas. Rules for entering and leaving Australia will change with time. Please visit Home Affairs for the lastest information.
Provide clearance for well people who have had contact with unwell people (specifically, if the unwell person has NOT been diagnosed with COVID-19).
At this time, GPs can:
Facilitate assessment and testing for COVID-19, for patients who exhibit symptoms, particularly those who have had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19. The sharing of these results with an employer / school is at the discretion of the patient, however the patient will be legally required to self-isolate if the test is positive.
People with cold and flu like symptoms should not attend the workplace or school until symptoms have fully resolved and should be tested for COVID-19. Please encourage your employees / students to follow this advice.
